metaller than thou

Metal used to be about acceptance, friendship and a good moshpit. You weren't judged on how metal you looked but how metal your heart was. Now, however, it's a different story. To listen to metal you have to dress metal and have things like tattoos and piercings. Just because one does not dress like a metalhead does not mean he has not a heart of steel. Isn't metal about being yourself and not conforming to trends?

Also I find that metal seems to be splitting within itself, death metallers don't want to know heavy metallers and black metallers don't want to know death metallers. Isn't metal about uniting under the flag of steel? Because all I see is a broken community suffering from seperation. Metal needs to pull itself together.

Division is an essential part of unifying people. But we only hope that people will always unite under the inclusive flag of metal, not some exclusive sub-sub-genre.

RAMMSTEIN : Reborn in Flames

German industrial metallers fine tune new album.

rammstein reborn in flamesIndustrial metal fire starters RAMMSTEIN are currently holed-up in the studio putting the finishing touches to the mixing process of their brand new album. The follow-up to 2005’s Rosenrot album remains untitled at the time of going to press, and is expected to be released in the autumn, with a single to precede it a month or two earlier. Recording began late last year in Los Angeles, but due to the band’s notoriously perfectionist instincts, tracking has only been recently completed.
According to reports, the band have also been collaborating with orchestral whiz Sven Helbig after deciding that several of the album’s tracks are to feature lavish string arrangements, orchestral parts and even a choir. Producer Jacob Hellner, who has worked on all five previous Rammstein albums, is again manning the controls. It has been several years since Rammstein last released a record.
Rosenrot provided the band with three successful singles in Benzi, Mann Gegen Mann and the title track, the videos for which can all be seen on YouTube. The band’s last major released was the lavish Volkerball DVD in 2006, which provided fans with a comprehensive souvenir from the extravagant tour that spawned its generous contents. Meanwhile, in 2007, founder member Richard Z Kruspe released the first, self-titled album from his side-project Emigrate and sneaked onto the soundtrack for Resident Evil: Extinction in the process.

Fear Factory Return! Sonisphere, Bloodstock and a new album on the way!

fear factory sonisphere bloodstock new album
Fear Factory’s Burton C Bell and Dino Cazares have joined forces again. Contrary to recent internet rumours, this is no mere collaboration, but an actual regrouping of the LA cyber metallers. A new line-up of the band are working on new material; the pair’s first collaboration since 2001’s Digimortal. They will hit the UK this summer for some major festivals. The band originally split up in 2002 due to personal differences between the pair, but reformed with bassist Christian Olde Wolbers on guitar. The new band will feature Burton and Dino alongside bassist Byron Stroud ( Who replaced Christian on bass) and drummer Gene Hoglan ( SYL/Death). Speaking exclusively to Hammer, the pair reveal how the reunion happened.
“We were friends before we were in a band together but after a while we forgot what it was all about”, says Burton.
“The first time we saw each other in a long time was at the Ministry show in LA last year, and we just started talking again. Good friendships will always return.”
“Burt lives in Pennsylvania and I live in California,” adds Dino. “So we never really had a chance to see each other. When we did it was like, “What’s up, buddy? How’re you doing?’ It was like we’d never stopped being friends. We had to rekindle the friendship first and then move forward from there.”
Diehard fans may be wondering where Christian or drummer Raymond Herrera are. Although reluctant to go into details, Burton is adamant that the decision to reconvene with a new line-up was made for artistic reasons.
“I wouldn’t say this is a reformation,” he says.
“It’s more of a reorganisation. After talking to Dino again it just felt good and right to do it this way.”
“Fear Factory was always a band that evolved,” continues Dino. “We’ve got my signature guitar sound and Burton’s signature vocals. But we’ve got a different drummer so there’s gonna be some different ideas. We’re not gonna put out a record that’s half-assed. It’s going to be 100 percent Fear Factory.”
UK was the first place to accept Fear Factory.
